Track construction on Kansas City’s Main Street streetcar line will start in late spring and run through early summer of 2015, a group associated with the project said.
An email from Kansas City engineering firm Burns & McDonnell shared further details on Kansas City’s coming construction schedule for the 2.2-mile line. The email said track construction will begin in late spring. Work will start on the north side of the track — in the River Market — and on the south side — near Union Station — and will be conducted in three-block segments heading toward the middle.
Original construction schedules issued in December 2012 said the $102 million streetcar would be operational before June 2015. Private utility work preparing the stretch of Main Street for the streetcar already is underway and is expected to last into the summer of 2014.
