New Entertainment District Developing In Midtown KC

What started out as a couple’s desire to bring their favorite gay-friendly restaurant to Kansas City is blossoming into a new entertainment district.

Dr. Eric Christensen and Jeff Edmondson, life partners and business partners in a new restaurant group called ECCO Holdings, are teaming with the owner of the historic Uptown Theater complex and adjacent Uptown Shoppes to develop the new district.

Larry Sells, who owns the 150,000 square feet of Uptown retail and event space, has been trying to revive the Broadway strip through Kansas City’s Midtown neighborhood since be bought the Uptown properties 20 years ago. But the area’s future never looked as bright as it has since ECCO Holdings arrived on the Midtown scene, he said.
