KC Construction Activity Climbed 9 Percent In 2013

Construction activity in the Kansas City metropolitan area topped $2.9 billion in 2013, up 9 percent from 2012.

Trade publication McGraw Hill Construction reported $1.65 billion in residential construction activity, a 32 percent increase from 2013, that bolstered the 2013 numbers despite an 11 percent drop in non-residential work.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City reported single-family permits broke the 4,000 mark last year for the first time since 2007, up 24 percent from 2012, and the 2,879 multifamily apartments and condominium permits issued in 2013 were up 62.2 percent from the previous year.
