Burns & McDonnell plans to hire about 600 workers throughout the country by the end of the year; about half will work in the Kansas City area, and the others will be dispersed throughout the company’s other U.S. offices. The Kansas City-based architecture and engineering company is making the hires in anticipation of growing demand, spokesman Roger Dick said.
The firm thinks it is well-positioned in the recovering construction industry and in two exceptionally active energy sectors: electrical transmission, and oil- and gas-related services. Last year, the construction practice brought in more than $1 billion for the first time in the firm’s history. Burns & McDonnell had total revenue of about $2 billion in 2013, Dick said. The company currently employs about 2,500 in the Kansas City metro area.
