Kansas City Area Gained Payroll Jobs In 2013

Though the number of payroll jobs in the Kansas City area declined from November to December 2013, the area still ended the year with about 7,000 more employees on payroll than at the end of 2012.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the Kansas City area’s unemployment rate decreased from 6.4 percent at the end of 2012 to 5.4 percent at the end of 2012. There were 1,011,500 employees on area payrolls in December 2013, compared with 1,004,500 at the end of 2012, according to the bureau.

The area had 56,200 unemployed people seeking work at the end of December 2012. There were 61,800 in November and 66,100 in December 2012.

From the end of 212 to the end of 2012, the Kansas City workforce declined by 2800 workers, according to the bureau.
