Sedgwick LLP, an international law firm based in San Francisco, will begin relocating its shared services center to downtown Kansas City in June and will employ 100 people there. A Sedgwick partner said the shared services positions will pay annual salaries averaging $68,000.

Sedgwick is partnering with the Metropolitan Community College Institute for Workforce Innovation to fill the positions. The site of the new office has not yet been announced.

The deal comes at a time when Missouri and Kansas lawmakers are working toward a truce to end the use of so-called border war tax incentives to lure existing area businesses from one side of the state line to the other. “It’s always great to attract highly paid professional talent from other parts of the country,” said Bob Marcusse, CEO of the Kansas City Area Development Council. “And equally important to us is the fact that we competed against some wonderful parts of the country.” The other finalists in the competition were Indianapolis and Raleigh, N.C.
