Missouri is the fastest-growing state for technology employment for the second consecutive year, according to research from Dice.com, which tracks IT jobs. Missouri gained 2,700 tech positions in 2013, an 8 percent increase compared with 2012. That percentage of growth was the best in the country, just ahead of Massachusetts, Illinois and Texas.
Missouri finished the year with 34,700 tech workers, the highest amount dating back to 2002. In 2012, Missouri finished the year with 32,000 tech jobs, and in 2011, the state finished with 27,500 tech jobs.
St. Louis startups were responsible for 850 jobs in 2012 and just 455 in 2010, according to Jim Brasunas, executive director of the IT Enterpreneurial Network.
