A New Jersey-based pharmaceutical firm that acquired the Aptuit operation three years ago is planning to hire an additional 230 employees over the next five years.

Catalent Pharma Solutions, which employs about 50 people, has received a state job-training grant. It will assist Catalent’s plan to hire the 230 people, Rachel Wolf, Catalent’s human relations director, said Monday.

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and Kansas City Mayor Sly James were scheduled to discuss the expansion at an event Tuesday afternoon at the 450,000-square-foot Catalent facility in south Kansas City. The company is described as a global leader in the life sciences industry. The building is part of the former Marion Laboratories complex, which also includes the Cerner Innovation Campus.
