Kansas City Council Requires Election On KCI Construction Project

The Kansas City Council passed an ordinance that will require an election on any proposal that would demolish, replace or construct new passenger terminals at city-owned Kansas City International Airport.

The ordinance also prohibits the city from using public resources to campaign for a positive or negative vote in that election, but doesn’t prohibit planning an airport proposal; earlier drafts prohibited planning. Petitioners who wanted to force a vote on the future of KCI felt victorious after the council’s decision.
