Kansas City has partnered with Parkmobile USA Inc. in hopes of reducing the pain of parking downtown. Atlanta-based Parkmobile has an application that allows drivers to pay for parking from their smartphones.

Once a potential user is registered for the free app, the user must find a parking spot and then enter the meter’s zone number. Users can pay through a PayPal account or through Parkmobile’s wallet service. The company charges a service fee for each transaction.

The application is available on iOS, Android, Windows and Blackberry smartphones. It is also available in Columbia and Lawrence, Kan.
