The Metcalf South Shopping center was purchased Friday by Kansas City-based Lane4 Property Group with the backing of the Columbia-based Kroenke Group, owned by multibillionaire Stan Kroenke. The developer is looking to tear down the in Overland Park, Kan., complex and replace it with a residential, retail and office development.

The shopping center was beginning to see trouble as Macy’s announced it was leaving the location last month. The purchase will also include the 95 West Shopping Center just north of the mall.

About 110,000 vehicles pass through an intersection next to the complex daily, making it one of the highest-traffic areas in Overland Park. The properties total 60 acres and 800,000 square feet of buildings. The plan is to replace the shopping center with high-density residential and commercial facilities.
