Gov. Jay Nixon said in a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry that he supports the Keystone XL pipeline that would carry oil from Canada to Texas but would not cross Missouri’s borders.

“The approval and construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline will strengthen our economy, create jobs and promote North American energy independence,” Nixon wrote in the letter Monday.

The State Department is in the process of determining whether to recommend that President Barack Obama approve the international project.
