Kansas City and St. Louis ranked eighth and ninth, respectively, for lowest rent per apartment unit among the 50 largest cities in the United States. Average monthly rent is $778 in Kansas City and $779 in St. Louis, according to CBRE’s last quarterly report in 2013.
The average rent was calculated using rental quotes from studio apartments to larger units.
According to The Richest, which compiled the data, Kansas City’s low rent can be attributed to cold winter weather and less varied industry than other larger U.S. cities. St. Louis’ landlocked location, variable weather and crime rate were listed as factors contributing to its cheap rent.
