The Missouri Public Service Commission approved Laclede Gas Co.’s request for a surcharge to recover the cost of replacing old gas mains that will cost residential customers an extra 86 cents a month, while the increase for commercial and industrial users will depend on the type of business.

Laclede expects to raise about $7.1 million annually from the new charge, which it says will pay for about 68 miles of gas main replacements last year. Customers haven’t seen the infrastructure surcharge on their bills since last summer, when it was reduced to zero from $1.82 a month during the utility’s general rate review.
