Mercy To Spend $1.5 Million On Alternative Birthing Suites

Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur is opening four alternative birthing suites, which will resemble the interior of a home and be run by certified midwives, by Labor Day. St. Louis-based McCarthy will serve as general contractor on the the $1.5 million project and begin construction this month. The alternative suites follow a $27 million renovation of Mercy’s Maternity Welcome Center and Labor Suites.

The new suites will allow women the option of giving birth outside of a hospital setting, but with the security of hospital staff and services. The new suites will contain a queen-size bed, bathroom with a shower and tub and a living room and kitchen area for the family.
