Google Fiber Considering Public Wi-Fi Service In Kansas City

Google Inc. is considering whether to introduce outdoor Wi-Fi networks in cities where it is installing Google Fiber, including Kansas City, the first test market for residential service.

Google Fiber officials have met with another 34 cities regarding the potential of rolling out the gigabit network in those places. The cities have until May 1 to respond to a Google checklist.

Google, which recently announced plans to test Fiber service for small businesses in Kansas City, is developing an app that would automatically connect users to its Wi-Fi hotspots, according to a report in Engadget.
