KC Tourism Bureau Gets New President

Ronnie Burt, a tourism executive in Washington, D.C., with 23 years of hospitality and tourism experience, will become the new president and CEO of the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association. Burt, now vice president of sales and services for Destination DC, will oversee a staff of 40 and a budget of $10 million.

He succeeds Rick Hughes, who retired at the end of 2013 after leading the KCCVA for 10-plus years. Two big issues Burt will have on his plate: Kansas City is trying to land the 2016 Republican National Convention, and the city continues to explore whether and how to build a convention center hotel.
