Tom McDonnell will step down as president and CEO of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation on June 30, and Wendy Guillies, the vice president of communications, will become acting president and CEO on July 1.
The Kansas City-based foundation said McDonnell’s personal plans do not permit an extended commitment to the foundation’s long-term strategic plan to bolster education and entrepreneurship.
McDonnell will remain with Kauffman until the end of the year to advise trustees and management, according to the statement from the foundation.
McDonnell had been the CEO of DST Systems Inc., a financial services company in Kansas City, for nearly 30 years when the foundation selected him as its CEO in December 2012. McDonnell, who replaced Carl Schramm as CEO, had been chairman of the Kauffman’s board of trustees since September 2006.
