KANSAS CITY, Mo. — AMC Entertainment Inc. (AMC) will sell six of its locations in Canada as the company focuses on United States business.
AMC has reached an agreement with Cineplex Entertainment to sell the AMC Yonge & Dundas 24, AMC Winston Churchill 24 and AMC Courtney Park 16, all located in the Greater Toronto Area, as well as AMC Forum 22 located in Montreal. AMC is selling two more—the AMC Whitby 24 in Toronto and AMC Kanata 24 in Ottawa—to Empire Theatres Limited.
“These divestitures allow AMC to focus our resources on initiatives which impact our business in the United States,” said Mark McDonald, executive vice president of global develomment at AMC. “We believe Cineplex and Empire Theatres Limited will ensure moviegoers at these locations will continue to have a great experience.”
The sale comes at the same time as AMC loses its former flagship Mainstreet Theater located in the Kansas City Power and Light district, as previously reported.
