St. Louis Vote Clears Way For Renaissance Grand Renovation

The City of St. Louis has passed its new agreement with the buyer of the 917-room Renaissance St. Louis Grand Hotel, which will allow the sale to Maritz, Wolfe & Co. to close. The buyer, 800 Washington LLC, will be allowed to pay about $400,000 less annually on a loan to the city for seven years. That loan, issued to help build the Renaissance Grand and to renovate the hotel’s suites from 2000 to 2002, now stands at about $25 million.

The city’s concessions came because 800 Washington LLC was required by Marriott to invest $22 million into the hotel, up from $15 million, as part of its product improvement plan.
