The Kansas City Planning Department has invited area developers to submit apartment project plans for two city-owned parking lots.
The two lots are located in the heart of the City Market area and are along a planned streetcar route. To qualify, developers must plan apartment buildings with retail on the first floor and replace the parking currently available to City Market visitors in addition to creating parking for building residents.
Plans must be submitted to the city by July 18. It is unclear if the city will donate the parking lots to developers as an additional incentive to build on the underutilized spaces.
