Installation of massive geothermal and solar power systems for Ikea’s new Merriam, Kansas store is nearing an end this summer in time for the store’s fall opening.

The store provided a construction update this week announcing it had completed its underground geothermal work which will make the store the largest single building with geothermal heating and cooling in Kansas or Missouri. The store will also install 2,850 solar panels on its rooftop this June, making it the largest rooftop array in Kansas.

The new store will be the first Ikea location in either Kansas or Missouri and is set to open sometime between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. The store is expected to employ about 300 workers.
