Kansas City Specialty Advertising Company Closes

Barton Nelson, a family-owned specialty advertising product manufacturer based in Kansas City, has closed after operating for 53 years. The firm is known mainly for transforming the sticky note from a blank piece of paper into a multicolor, self-adhesive marketing tool.

In 2011, Barton Nelson, which had 73 employees at the time, received $5.7 million from St. Louis-based venture capital firm Advantage Capital Partners. A telephone recording at Barton Nelson’s Kansas City office said the company was “being forced to close its doors by our lenders.” As a result, the company will not be able to ship current orders or accept new orders, the recording stated.
