McCownGordon Construction, a general contractor based in Kansas City, recently purchased a DJI Phantom 2 drone to take aerial photographs. The company’s IT director said the little unmanned aerial vehicle, which cost $1,000 and is outfitted with a high-definition video camera and a 14-megapixel still camera, will save the firm about $800 a month on aerial photographs. And the company is coming up with new uses for the technology.
Aerial drones, which are well known for their military application, are bursting onto the civilian scene. Companies large and small are looking for ways to use the technology to their advantage.
