KCP&L To Buy Energy From Kansas Wind Farm

Kansas City Power & Light’s parent company, Great Plains Energy Inc,, entered into a 20-year agreement with EDF Renewable Energy Inc. to buy power from a central Kansas wind farm. Great Plains Energy will buy energy from the planned Slate Creek Wind Project — which will be about 50 miles south of Wichita — when it is operational by the end of 2015.

Great Plains CEO Terry Bassham said the agreement will add cleaner, more renewable energy to the region. It is not clear whether the agreement is related to a 2007 settlement between KCP&L and the Sierra Club.
