City Council Clears Path For Google Fiber’s Arrival In Overland Park

Overland Park’s City Council approved two agreements Monday night that should enable Google Fiber to bring its high-speed internet to the Kansas City suburb.

Overland Park will allow Google to install “network huts” on city property and to use the city’s existing infrastructure to string its fiber. Several council members balked at those conditions last September, and in October Google announced it was, at least temporarily, abandoning plans to expand to Overland Park.

Earlier this year, AT&T announced it planned to bring its own gigabit-speed Internet service to Overland Park.
