Attorney General Chris Koster announced at the Missouri Farm Bureau headquarters that he supports a proposed constitutional amendment on the Aug. 5 ballot that he believes will protect Missouri’s agriculture industry against future burdensome regulations.

The ballot language reads: Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to ensure that the right of Missouri citizens to engage in agricultural production and ranching practices shall not be infringed?

Koster, who plans to run for governor in 2016, said the amendment would ensure Missouri’s agriculture industry remains competitive with other states. Opponents say it would give corporate farms a blank check to pollute and allow even the most minimal of regulations to be challenged in court.
