Amidst makeover, KC’s Westport district sees influx of new tenants

Kansas City’s Westport district is experiencing an economic growth spurt from a recent increase in new business. A dozen locally owned restaurants and bars have opened in the last few months or plan to open soon, marking the largest influx of new tenants into the midtown neighborhood in close to two decades.

Though it was Kansas City’s top nightlife hub for years, Westport has been forced to undergo changes since the Power & Light District and suburban entertainment options created competition.

Along with the arrival of new establishments, the district has benefited from housing development, taxes directed toward community improvement and efforts to reduce crime.
