Judge upholds Hallmark trade secrets verdict

The U.S. Court of Appeals has upheld a $31.3 million verdict in favor of Hallmark Cards Inc. in a trade secrets case involving a Boston-based consulting firm. The Kansas City greeting cards company secured the original verdict after going to trial.

Hallmark had hired Monitor Co. Group LP in 2001 to research consumer behavior in the greeting cards market. Monitor shared market information it had compiled for Hallmark with a private equity firm that became interested in purchasing Recycled Paper Greetings Inc., a greeting cards manufacturer.
