St. Louis-based liquor wholesaler Major Brands Inc. is acquiring Missouri Beverage Co., a St. Louis-based distributor of wine, spirits and beer with 2013 revenue of about $20 million.

The acquisition marks a continuation of Major Brands’ strategy following legal battles with Bacardi USA Inc. and Diageo North America Inc., formerly its largest supplier. Both companies ended their relationships with Major Brands in 2013, which Major Brands has alleged is a violation of state franchise law.

Missouri Beverage has about 150 suppliers, including Founders Brewing, and Rogue Ales and Spirits, and has approximately 70 employees.

Major Brands CEO Sue McCollum said in an interview that her company would hire as many Missouri Beverage employees as possible, and emphasized the compatibility of the companies’ portfolios.

Terms of the deal, which is expected to close this fall, were not disclosed.
