Retailers brace for big weekend as sales tax holiday arrives

Some Missouri retailers say they began preparing weeks in advance for the state’s annual sales tax holiday, which begins today and runs through Sunday. One store manager in the St. Louis area likened this weekend, when clothing, school supplies, computers and software don’t carry any sales tax, to a “summer version of Black Friday.”

But not all shoppers in the state are as enthusiastic about the tax holiday. Some back-to-school shoppers say they would prefer to pay sales tax rather than face big crowds and depleted inventories at stores this weekend.
