Two St. Louis-area energy deals among second quarter’s biggest

Two deals involving Missouri energy companies were among the 10 biggest deals in North American power and utilities in the second quarter, according to a report from Pricewaterhousecooper.

The St. Louis-based Laclede Group ranked No. 6 for its $1.6 billion purchase of Alabama Gas Corporation from Energen Corp. in April. SunEdision, based in St. Peters, ranked No. 10 on the list for its $179 million purchase of a 50 percent stake in Silver Ridge Inc.

According to the report, the sum of all the deals made in the power and utility industry in the second quarter rose by 179 percent compared to the second quarter of 2013. Over the same period, the average value of a deal also increased by 50 percent.
