Wash U debuting $69 million mixed-use project

Students have begun to outnumber construction workers on the site of Washington University’s new, $69 million mixed-use development in St. Louis’ Delmar Loop.

The project, known as The Lofts at Washington University, includes beds for 414 undergraduates, a supermarket and an all-night diner. A second phase of the project will eventually add apartments for 186 more students and boost the final price tag to $80 million.

Planning began four years ago for the project, which represents a dramatic shift of student housing away from Wash U’s core campus and establishes the school as a significant commercial developer.
