Ikea has announced it will open its new Kansas City-area store Sept. 10 and allow customers to start lining up outside as early as 48 hours before that.

The 359,000-square-foot store, which sits on 18.4 acres in Merriam, Kan., will offer about 10,000 exclusively designed home furnishings, a supervised children’s play area and a 450-seat restaurant.

Ikea officials said the Swedish home furnishing retailer has more than 60,000 customers in the Kansas City area. They expect the store to be a regional destination.
