The Tax Increment Financing Commission of Kansas City may break away from the Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City due to concerns with the level of financial information and professional services the TIF Commission is receiving from the EDC.

The EDC serves as an umbrella organization for several incentive-granting agencies in the city and is designed to be the single entry-point in the new AdvanceKC system that seeks to match developer incentives with the City Council’s economic development priorities. But TIF Commission representatives have expressed dissatisfaction with the EDC and are hinting at the TIF Commission following in the footsteps of the Port Authority of Kansas City, which parted ways with the EDC a few years ago.

That option and others will be discussed during an Aug. 25 meeting of the TIF Commission’s Finance and Audit Committee.
