Stowers Institute affiliate uncovers breakthrough in cancer research

BioMed Valley Discoveries Inc., an affiliate of Kansas City’s Stowers Institute for Medical Research, has identified a specially modified bacteria that can consume non-operative cancerous tumors.

The breakthrough represents a major victory for the Stowers Institute, but its success also touches American Century Investments. The Kansas City-based mutual fund provider was founded by the late James Stowers, the namesake and primary benefactor of the Stowers Institute, and it donates 40 percent of its profits to support the Institute.
