The Danforth Plant Science Center has appointed Erica Fishel, a biochemist and adviser to patent attorneys, to head its technology transfer program. Fishel will work on expanding technology licensing and intellectual property at Danforth by keeping track of research that could become patented and trying to bring new products to market. She will act as a liason between Danforth scientists and the center’s corporate partners to try to secure company-sponsored research and licensing agreements.
Fishel is a scientific adviser on agriculture technology issues for Global Patent Group, an intellectual property law firm located on the Danforth campus. Last year, Danforth filed seven patent applications and either closed or maintained nine licensing deals with private companies through its tech transfer program.
