Local developer buys St. Louis skyscraper

A St. Louis developer has acquired the Laclede Gas Building downtown for $5 million and plans to convert the office tower to mixed-use.

Brian Hayden’s development group bought the 31-story building from Santa Monica, Calif.-based Hertz Investment Group, Hayden’s operation manager said. Hertz acquired the building in 2007 for $10.5 million.

Laclede Gas is relocating its headquarters next year to the former GenAm building a few blocks away.
