General Motors plans to add 750 jobs and start a third production shift at its Wentzville Assembly Plant early next year when GM starts making its next generation of midsize pickups, the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon.
The Wentzville plant, which currently builds Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans, has 2,600 employees. The added shift will bring employment to a record 3,350.
Dealers have ordered 30,000 Colorado pickups. Sales in the industry have surged to 17.5 million pickup trucks this August.
