Kansas City-founded pharmaceutical company plans IPO

Proteon Therapeutics Inc., which saw its deal to be purchased by Novartis AG fall through this year, is planning an initial public offering. In its filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Proteon did not disclose how many shares it will will offer and at what price.

The company, founded in Kansas City in 2001, said it plans to use the money to accelerate clinical trials, accelerate chemistry and manufacturing controls and fund additional research and development activities. Although it maintains some research facilities in the region, Proteon’s headquarters have moved to Waltham, Mass.
