Oklahoma Joe’s Bar-B-Que’s co-founders, who have run separate restaurant operations in Kansas and Oklahoma, are cutting all remaining ties.

Jeff and Joy Stehney, owners of the barbecue restaurant’s three Kansas City-area locations, announced in August that the restaurants are rebranding as Joe’s Kansas City.

The Stehneys’ co-founder, Joe Davidson, plans to expand even further, opening an Oklahoma Joe’s in Tulsa and two restaurants in Washington, D.C. He also has designs on opening a facility in the Tulsa area to ship his Oklahoma Joe’s barbecue throughout the U.S.

Under the agreement, Davidson could move forward with his plan to take Oklahoma Joe’s nationwide, as long he did not open Oklahoma Joe’s restaurants in Kansas or on the Missouri side of the Kansas City metro until 2021. Furthermore, Stehney promised not to open Joe’s Kansas City restaurants in Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas until 2021.
