Construction on upswing in Springfield area

More than 115 projects valued at more than $388 million were reported for the next year through the second annual Regional Bidding Forecast presented in Springfield. With a reduced construction workforce after many left the industry during the recession, it’s important to forecast projects and for developers and builders to communicate so big jobs won’t overlap and bidding can stay competitive, a Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce official said. The new patient tower at Cox Medical Center South is scheduled to open in May, and two entertainment centers should open by end of the year. Retail construction includes a new CVS Pharmacy, and industrial warehouse construction is healthy, too.
