Owners of an Ohio auction house have bought the Selkirk name, which has a 184-year-old history in St. Louis, and hope to revive the reputation of one of the oldest names in the art and antique auction business in America. The owners of Garth’s Auctioneers say they bought the name and mailing list from a creditor of Ivey-Selkirk Auctioneers. They plan to set up an auction house somewhere in the St. Louis area, but not at the old Ivey-Selkirk site in Clayton.
Ivey-Selkirk went out of business in February. Malcolm Ivey bought the firm it in 2002 and operated it until this year.
