Kansas City Chamber targets pre-school education as priority

The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and a regional council decided to set a new goal for their “Big 5” initiative: ensure that every child in the area is kindergarten-ready.

A solid early learning foundation not only helps a child succeed in school, but it’s the fundamental building block to a capable workforce, strong economy and a vibrant community, the executive director of the Mid-America Regional Council said.

In the greater Kansas City area, one of three children enter kindergarten without the skills they need, and by fourth grade, 60 percent are not proficient in reading.
