Loan default rate drops among Missouri college students

The three-year default rate for Missourians who were supposed to begin repaying their student loans in 2011 dropped to 12.6 percent from 13.1 percent the year before, according to a recent report by the U.S. Department of Education.

Students in some nearby states aren’t doing as well. The default rate in Arkansas was 15.8 percent; Iowa, 17.3 percent; and Oklahoma,15.7 percent. Nationwide, the default for fiscal year 2011 was 13.7 percent.
