Monsanto spends nearly $5 million on GMO fight

Monsanto Co. has given $4.7 million to defeat a Colorado measure to label foods containing genetically modified organisms in the state, according to the Colorado Secretary of State’s office. The money has gone to a statewide collection of business and producer groups trying to defeat a ballot measure in November.

“Proposition 105” would require food containing GMOs to carry a label reading “Produced with Genetic Engineering” in a “clear and conspicuous manner” on its labeling.
