Missouri gas prices drop below $3 a gallon

Gasoline prices in Missouri dropped below $3 a gallon on Monday, and the fuel was selling for as low as $2.77 a gallon this morning, according to AAA Missouri and MissouriGasPrices.com. St. Louis had the lowest average price at $2.97, and Kansas City was right behind at $2.98, according to GasBuddy.com.

AAA said that over the past month prices have dropped 33 cents on the Missouri side of St. Louis and 20 cents in the St. Louis Metro East, where higher taxes usually push gasoline prices up.

The forecast expects the drop in the area to continue to $2.82 a gallon in November before bouncing back. The national average price is also expected to drop to $3.18 a gallon by this December, the cheapest for the month in four years.

Last month, the federal Energy Information Administration said lower crude oil prices and the annual switch from more expensive summer to winter gas is fueling a decline in fuel costs.
