For the first time, Boeing will begin producing commercial plane parts at its operations in St. Louis County. The company announced that starting in 2017 it will manufacture the parts for the 777x at its composites facility, a move that will create about 700 jobs. Until now, only military aircraft has been produced in the St. Louis area.

Boeing will not produce the entire plane in St. Louis. That will happen in Washington, despite the Missouri Legislature’s 2013 offer of $1.7 billion in tax breaks and St. Louis County’s own $1.8 billion in incentives for the company.
