Sprint has shed 5,000 employees since December

Sprint Corp. has reduced its workforce by about 5,000 employees since December, and the Overland Park, Kan.-based wireless carrier is eyeing more layoffs as it looks to cut costs.

Sprint reportedly had about 38,000 employees in December and now currently has about 33,000. On Friday, the company announced an additional workforce reduction plan that’s expected to cost Sprint $160 million in severance costs and be complete on Oct. 31.

Sprint currently has the smallest workforce of the four major U.S. wireless carriers.
