St. Louis energy stocks take sharp hit in Dow’s worst day of 2014

St. Louis energy companies saw their stocks drop Thursday as The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 334 points, the biggest drop since June 2013.

Arch Coal Inc. dropped more than 7 percent, to $1.54 per share. Peabody Energy Corp. dropped more than 9 percent, to $10.24 per share. Ameren Corp. was down more than 2 percent, to $39.04 per share.

By the end of the day, the Dow had lost 334.97 points, or 2 percent, to 16,659.25, as a decline in energy stocks and worries about the global economy sent investors fleeing out of the market.
